Wayanad landslide: 40 rescue groups start search operations; practically 300 nonetheless lacking

The search and rescue operations that obtained underway early morning have gotten an impetus from the completion of the 190-foot-long Bailey bridge that can allow the motion of heavy equipment, together with excavators, and ambulances to the worst-affected Punchirimattam, Mundakkai and Chooralmala hamlets.

The 40 groups will conduct search operations in six zones of the landslides-hit areas — Attamala and Aaranmala (first), Mundakkai (second), Punchirimattam (third), Vellarimala village (fourth), GVHSS Vellarimala (fifth), and riverbank (sixth).

The joint groups embrace personnel from the military, NDRF, DSG, Coast Guard, Navy, and MEG together with three locals and one forest division worker.

The extent of human loss will emerge when rescuers clear homes coated by particles and wooden logs utilizing heavy equipment. Up to now, 190 individuals have been killed and practically 300 are lacking within the tragedy.

Based on the rescue plan made by the authorities, a search operation may also be carried out within the Chaliyar River, as quite a few our bodies had been washed downstream and have already been discovered from the river. The eight police stations, alongside the 40-km stretch of the Chaliyar, will be a part of forces with native swimming consultants to go looking the river.
