JSW Metal will get possession of land for brand spanking new plant in Odisha

JSW Utkal Metal, a wholly-owned subsidiary of JSW Metal, has acquired the requisite 2,950.31 acres for establishing a greenfield built-in metal plant of 13.2 million tonnes in Odisha.

In 2022, the steelmaker introduced plans to arrange a metal plant in Odisha with an funding of ₹65,000 crore in a phased method. The corporate already owns substantial iron ore reserves within the State.

The land parcel, nearer to the Paradip port in Odisha, was as soon as earmarked for the Korean large Posco which had plans to arrange 12-mtpa metal plant. Nevertheless, the venture didn’t take off as native protests over land acquisition and delayed environmental clearance resulting in Posco abandon the venture.

Of the full land required for the venture, about 2,677.80 acres was Forest Land. The Divisional Forest Officer, Mangrove Forest Division, Rajnagar and the Collector on Thursday delivered paperwork pertaining to the handing over of possession for the full forest land of two,677.80 acres to JSW Utkal Metal, it stated.

The non-forest land of 272.51 acres has already been leased in favour of JSW Utkal Metal by the Odisha authorities, it added with out intimating when the venture might be began.
