Addressing the media after the board assembly of the Reserve Financial institution of India, she mentioned that deposits and lending are the 2 wheels of a cart and “deposit is shifting slowly.” The banks, she pressured, must concentrate on core banking enterprise which is mobilising deposits and lending to those that want funds.
So as to overcome the mismatch between deposits and lending, Sitharaman requested banks to provide you with “modern and engaging” deposit schemes to mobilise funds from the individuals.
RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das mentioned that rates of interest are deregulated and infrequently banks elevate deposit charges to draw funds.
“Banks are free to determine on rates of interest”, Das added.
